PENMEN® Creator Gary Blehm
Gary Blehm first drew Penman in a one room school house near Aspen, Colorado in 1977. He drew the character relentlessly into young adulthood with a passionate dream of popularizing his own cartoon character. Then in July of 1989 Gary printed, published, and distributed his first poster “Find the Two Identical PENMEN” from his home studio in Colorado Springs, Co. Within a few months PENMEN posters were being sold by retailers nationally. By 1992 the popular PENMEN poster was proudly displayed by fine art distributor Bruce McGaw, Graphics Inc. at the New York Art Expo in the Jacob Javits Convention Center. A Harcourt Brace book deal came along by 1994 and the comic strip was picked up for national syndication in newspapers. Blehm had his own popular cartoon character. Now what?
